Hasten to forgiveness

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous (133) Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good; (134) And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know. (135) Those - their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally; and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers. Be grateful

Holy Quran 4:147
------------------

What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is Allah Appreciative and Knowing.

Obey Allah and the messenger reanalysed

Salaam,

I have rewritten and reorganised this document and I believe it is better now offering a more complete approach.

................................................................................................................................................................

First we must summarise what has been learned in the other documents: -
  1. The Qur’an is complete and detailed for our guidance.  This implies that anything not in the Qur’an (by virtue of its completeness) is not binding upon us (45:6).
a.       If what was outside the Qur’an was binding on us, then the Qur’an is not complete.
  1. The excellent example of the messenger/prophet can be found in the Qur’an in the same way it can for Ibrahim.  External sources are not defined or needed.
  2. The only revelation given to Muhammad was the Qur’an.  That is, it is the only guidance from Allah that reaches him.  Those who do not judge by what is REVEALED are unbelievers/wrong doers/rebellious (5:44-50).

The direct consequences of these 3 points are that:
·         Religious guidance can only have as it source the Qur’an/Allah.
·         It means that there is nothing of the words and practice of the messenger/prophet that is not mentioned in the Qur’an that has any binding value on us now.
·         The role of the messenger/prophet for the generations after him lies in no more than his transmission of the Qur’an.

A major argument of the followers of hadith for the need for and validity of hadith can be found in the “obey Allah and (obey) the Messenger” type ayahs.  These ayahs are of two types:

The first says “Obey Allah and the messenger”:

The second says “Obey Allah and obey the messenger”.

أَطِيعُوا اللَّـهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَthis occurs less frequently in the Qur’an.

Allah has used a different phrasing for a reason; these statements do not mean the same thing.  So let’s analyse the ayaat where these are mentioned and understand them logically.

Baca and Salaah in the Bible

“How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you (selah). Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. Hear my prayer (selah), Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob.”
Psalm 84:1-8 NIV

The NIV scholars rendered Salaah as selah in the NIV bible as a footnote.  Clearly here we have mention of people always doing Salaah at the 'house of the Lord'.

Allah knows best!

Holy Quran 3:96
------------------

The first house established for mankind is the one at Bekka; blessed, and guidance for all people.

Holy Quran 3:97
------------------

In it are evident signs; the Station of Abraham. Whoever enters it attains security. Pilgrimage to the House is a duty to God for all who can make the journey. But as for those who refuse—God is Independent of the worlds.

I will add this data to the Salaah document and to the Hajj document inshallah.

Another verse for the detailed Qur'an document 6:154

I have updated the Detailed Qur'an document with the following ayah:

Then We gave Moses the Scripture, making complete [Our favor] upon the one who did good and as a detailed explanation of all things and as guidance and mercy that perhaps in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord they would believe.

(6:154)

This joins the following verse:

[Allah] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."  And We wrote for him on the tablets of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."
(Qur’an, 7:144-145)

This is yet another confirmation that even though the guidance was complete, the Jews would look for more.  Not for guidance, but for misguidance.

A lesson for Muslims.  Do not look for more than the detailed, complete and clear revelation of Allah.

These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement (Lit. hadith) after Allah and His verses will they believe?
(45:6)

When does the fasting day become too long?

When does the fasting day become too long?

This is a challenging topic for many Muslims; however there may be a way to calculate this directly from the Qur’an.

… and eat and drink until the white thread (of light) becomes distinct to you from the black thread (night/darkness) of the dawn. Then strictly observe the fast until/to the night ...
Qur'an (2:187)

The ability to see the white thread against a dark night sky is likely limited by the length of the day, in very long days, the night sky may not actually become dark at any point.  For example, when there is no longer astronomical twilight (the sun does not go 18 degrees below the horizon) the sky never quite gets dark.  Muslims should calculate at what point (how many degrees below the horizon) the sky stops being dark, and this will define the maximum length of the day acceptable for fasting.

Days that are longer than this should not be fasted (as you will not have actually witnessed the start point as per 2:187) and charity/feeding of the poor should take place instead for those who can.

I have updated the fasting document with this section.  I will research the topic myself and welcome answers from others.  Please post in the comments if you have answers or ideas.

Hell

Hell

No matter how bad your life is, no matter how long you live, there is hope.  Hope of change; hope of victory and at the very least, hope in the finite duration of your suffering.  Some day you know you will die and it will stop.  But Hell offers no hope.  Upon seeing its gates and knowing that it is your destination, all hope dies an eternal death.  That death begins on the day of judgement.

Obey Allah and obey the messenger

Obey Allah and Obey the Messenger; One or Two Sources?

First we must summarise what has been learned in the other documents: -

  1. The Qur’an is complete and detailed for our guidance.  This implies that anything not in the Qur’an (by virtue of its completeness) is not binding upon us (45:6).
  2. The excellent example of the prophet can be found in the Qur’an in the same way it can for Ibrahim.  External sources are not defined or needed.
  3. The only revelation/inspiration given to Muhammad was the Qur’an.  That is, it is the only guidance from Allah that reaches him.  Those who do not judge by what is REVEALED are unbelievers/wrong doers/rebellious (5:44-50).

The major argument of the followers of hadith for the need for and validity of hadith can be found in the “obey Allah and obey the Messenger” type ayahs.

Why won't you think?

Why Won’t you Think?
Truly, the worst of all creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf,
the dumb, those who do not use their reason/think.
Qur'an 8:22

Consider this verse carefully, Allah is telling us that the worst creatures are the ones that do not reason.

Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way.
(25:44)

There can be no excuse for giving up your right to think for yourself.  The consequences of switching off your critical faculties are absolutely terrifying, not just in the next world, but in this world.  In this world you end up wandering astray like livestock, or herded in your ignorance by those who are evil, or otherwise.

The Qur’anic Dress Code for Women

The Qur’anic Dress Code for Women

1         Introduction

This topic of dress code for women in the Qur’an is an important one as it is under relentless attack by liberalists in the Qur’an movement.  It has become almost a matter of fact among those in the Qur’an movement that many aspects of clothing regulations that Muslim women have followed over the centuries are wrong.  So the idea of a head cover is outright rejected, as well as the wearing of a robe (jilbab).  What we are left with are vague, self-serving manipulations of the guidance of Allah.

As I will show in this article, this liberal view is blatantly wrong.  So wrong in fact that I would say that any authors in the Qur’an movement who have promoted such a view are immediately disqualified from serious consideration for the simple reason that they have demonstrated that their biases have trumped the revelation of Allah.

This topic is a valuable litmus test for liberalism and ideologically biased authors.  A similar litmus test is on the topic of evolution in the Qur’an.

Hajj in the Qur'an

Where?

Hajj is to be done to the Sacred Mosque at the Ka’bah which is in Mecca.  Evidence for this can be seen in the following ayahs: -

The first House established for mankind was that at Bakka, a place of blessing and guidance for all beings.
In it are Clear Signs–the place where Ibrahim stood (to pray). All who enter it are safe. Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by all mankind–those who can find a way to do it. But if anyone disbelieves, Allah is rich beyond need of any being.
(3:96-97)
